Ito, the 1989 world champion, won Saturday’s final free skating to move past Yamaguchi in the warmup for the Winter Olympics. Yamaguchi led after Friday’s free program, which counted for one-third of the score.

Ito received a perfect 6.0 for technical merit from one of the nine judges. Her program included a triple axel-double toe loop combination. Her other marks were in the 5.7-5.9 range.

Yamaguchi’s top combination was a triple lutz-toe loop, not quite as difficult as the 3 1/2-revolution triple axel that Ito does in combination with a another jump.

Yamaguchi, who led a 1-2-3 sweep of the women’s event for the United States in this year’s world championships, dropped to second after falling during her routine to Spanish music.
