A jet-skier was killed in an accident on Mission Bay, police said.
Steven Blacmon, 20, of the 5900 block of Blacksmith Road in Bonita was riding his craft near South Fiesta Island at 12:50 p.m. Sunday, authorities said. When he took a sharp turn, his chin apparently struck the handlebars and he broke his neck, authorities said.
He was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, where he was pronounced dead. “He was found face down in the water with no life signs,” said Robert Engel, an investigator with the San Diego County medical examiner’s office. “I don’t think anyone saw the accident. People saw the splash, that’s all.”
An autopsy will be conducted on Monday to determine the cause of death, he said.
Blacmon, a student at Southwestern College, is survived by his wife.
