Shortstop Tony Fernandez, who had the right to demand a trade, has told the San Diego Padres that he will return next season.
Because Fernandez was traded during a multiyear contract, he had the right to demand a deal. He will receive $2.1 million in 1992, and the Padres have a 1993 option for $2.3 million.
