PREP NOTES
Nice catch? Although he sat out the football season this year to concentrate on basketball, Edison’s Brandon Jessie said he might try to play both sports in college.
Jessie, the county’s top basketball recruit, said he’s considering basketball scholarship offers from USC, UCLA, Colorado, Notre Dame and Miami. He said also might try to make the football team as a walk-on.
Jessie, son of former Ram receiver Ron Jessie, played football for the first time last season. He joined the team as a wide receiver at midseason, catching 27 passes for 675 yards and seven touchdowns.
Jessie sat out this football season to concentrate on basketball. He asked to rejoin the team at midseason, but the players voted not to allow him back.
In basketball, he averaged 21.4 points and 13 rebounds as a junior, shooting 43% from three-point range.
Jessie said he doesn’t plan to sign during basketball’s early signing period, which began Wednesday and ends next Wednesday. He also can sign during the regular period, April 15-May 15.
