Beverly Hills : Bid to Block Building Fails

Share

A referendum petition to block a department store’s controversial construction project has failed, the city clerk announced.

Backed by the Municipal League of Beverly Hills, the petition drive would have forced the City Council to block construction of a five-story building planned by Barneys New York at Wilshire Boulevard and Camden Drive.

According to City Clerk Jean Ushijima, 1,409 signatures were filed by the Nov. 7 deadline, but only 514 were legally valid. The number of valid signatures necessary to qualify a referendum petition is 1,928, she said.
