Police in Blythe on Friday arrested a convicted murderer who was among three prisoners who overpowered their guards on a van near Santa Barbara, then abandoned the vehicle in Los Angeles.
Gary Meeker, 26, convicted this year for a Wilshire-area murder, was arrested about 8:30 a.m. at a motel in the community near the Arizona border, said Detective Gene Edwards of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Fugitive Section.
Meeker had been convicted of the Jan. 15 killing of Marlon Harrison, 34, Edwards said. Meeker will be turned over to prison officials and faces possible additional charges of armed robbery, assault and escape, Edwards said.
Still at large are Donald Bullock, 49, who was in custody for burglary, and Charles McSwain, 41, who was being held on a fugitive warrant from Texas and was wanted by California authorities for grand theft.
