PRO FOOTBALL REPORT WEEKDAY UPDATE : AROUND THE NFL : 49ers’ Young Might Be in Uniform
Injured quarterback Steve Young probably won’t start against the Rams on Monday night, but he might suit up for the game, San Francisco 49er Coach George Seifert said.
Young, whose left knee was injured against Atlanta on Nov. 3, underwent arthroscopic surgery Nov. 8 and was expected to be sidelined for at least three games. However, Seifert said that team orthopedist Michael Dillingham will examine Young’s knee without the cast on Wednesday.
Injured Cleveland wide receiver Danny Peebles is doing well, but was expected to remain in a Houston hospital until at least today, the team said. Peebles was knocked out of Sunday night’s game with the Oilers after a collision with safety Bubba McDowell.
Former All-Pro safety Joey Browner didn’t start for Minnesota against Green Bay Sunday because of a hamstring injury, but he might not return to the starting lineup even if he’s healed, Viking Coach Jerry Burns said. Browner has been struggling. Browner’s weight, 228 pounds, has also been an issue.
