La Mirada : Consultant Will Study Uses for 4 Acres Beside Freeway
- Share via
The La Mirada City Council, sitting as the Redevelopment Agency, has authorized a feasibility study for development of the remaining four acres of the Gateway Center Plaza project along the Santa Ana Freeway (5) near Valley View Avenue. The development, started in 1980, already includes a hotel, a multiplex theater, two restaurants and two office buildings. A second hotel is under construction.
The Magellan Group, a land development consulting firm, has been awarded a contract to identify potential projects that would be feasible for the land. City Manager Gary Sloan said the city is hoping for a destination-type development, such as a health club, that would bring people to the area and augment the hotels, restaurants and theaters. “They (Magellan) are the experts; we want them to come up with some ideas,” Sloan said.
The study is to be completed in three to four months. Magellan’s fee is not to exceed $29,000.
