2 Held in Holdup of Convenience Store
A man with a handgun tucked in his waistband, a kitchen knife in one hand and a bottle of wine in another robbed a convenience store of $45 Wednesday night, police said.
Michael Andrews, 27, of Newport Beach was later arrested in connection with the robbery of the 7-Eleven store at 8472 Indianapolis Ave., Police Lt. Jeff Cope said.
An alleged accomplice, Robert Bashaw, 24, unknown address, was also arrested on suspicion of robbery, Cope added.
At 8 p.m. clerk Kevin Makoi, 29, of Cypress was tending the cash register when a man approached with “a bottle of wine tucked under one arm and . . . a large kitchen knife raised in the air in a threatening manner,” Cope said.
The man then told Makoi: “Give it to me!” before grabbing the gold chain around Makoi’s neck, Cope said. When the chain did not come off, the robber grabbed $45 in cash.
Witnesses told police that the robber escaped in a car driven by another man. The suspects were arrested shortly afterward.
Police recovered a kitchen knife, but neither a gun nor cash was found, Cope said.
