COMMUNITY COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Fullerton College Men Reach Tournament Final

Garry Hunter scored 19 points and Bob Terry added 17 as Fullerton College defeated Grossmont, 102-71, in a semifinal of Fullerton men’s basketball tournament Friday.

Hunter and Terry, both sophomore forwards, each made two three-pointers as well. Terry had a team-high eight rebounds and Hunter had seven as Fullerton moved into tonight’s 8 p.m. championship final against Columbia.

Greg Williams added 14 points and Rod Summers had 12 for Fullerton (4-0).

In the Cypress tournament:

Cypress 63, Canada 56--Anthony Livingston scored the last four points of the game on a layup and two free throws for Cypress. Sam Sabbara scored 13 points in the game for Cypress (4-1). Kahsan Jenkins scored 17 points for Canada (3-2). Cypress plays El Camino at 8 tonight for the championship.

In the Rancho Santiago tournament:

Rancho Santiago 122, El Toro Marines 64--Fred Amos scored 21 and had nine rebounds for Rancho Santiago (2-1), which plays Chaffey at 8 tonight for the championship.

In nonconference men’s basketball:

Orange Coast 63, MiraCosta 62--Michael Wenzlaff made a two-footer as time ran out, off a 90-foot pass from Matt Manwarren for host OCC (1-2). OCC had taken a 61-59 lead with nine seconds left on a tip-in by Eddie Morgan, but MiraCosta’s Shem VanDerveur made a three-pointer with one second left to put the Spartans ahead.

In the Golden West women’s tournament:

Golden West 73, Canyons 62--Allison Bickel scored 23 points, 18 in the second half, as Golden West (3-0) rallied after being down, 36-29, at halftime. Jenny Sullivan scored 21 points and Jennifer Harney added 11 for Golden West.

Golden West plays the Rustlers--a team of its own reserves--in the final at 7 tonight.

Rustlers 83, Grossmont 71--Cinnamon Basco scored 24 and Cossette Smith added 22 for the Rustlers.

In the Long Beach tournament:

Saddleback 66, Moorpark 55--Danielle Silva scored 20 points as Saddleback (4-0) advanced to the championship game tonight.
