Driver Dies in Crash After Falling Asleep
A Long Beach man was killed Sunday morning in El Cajon when he fell asleep at the wheel and his car struck a tree, officials said.
Makoto Mitchell, 19, was driving eastbound on Interstate 8 at about 8 a.m. when he apparently dozed off, according to a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol. He car went down an embankment east of Grape Street and hit a tree, the spokeswoman said. Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene.
