Spill Closes Coast Highway Lanes
Hazardous pool-cleaning liquid spilled onto Coast Highway on Tuesday from a truck, forcing officials to close both southbound lanes to evening rush-hour traffic for two hours.
The “spill-and-run” happened about 5:30 p.m. near Doheny Park Road and across from Doheny State Beach, California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Livingston said.
Witnesses said some of the liquid formed a vapor cloud over the road. The truck did not stop.
While a hazardous material team from the Orange County Fire Department was cleaning up the mess, southbound commuters were routed through San Clemente, Livingston said.
