A United Airlines plane from San Francisco landed in heavy fog at Los Angeles International Airport Tuesday night and was headed for the terminal when the nose gear went off the taxiway and became mired in dirt.

No injuries were reported in the 7:20 p.m. incident involving United Airlines Flight 1125, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said. Officials had not determined whether the fog played a role in the mishap.

Earlier Tuesday, a Northwest Airlines jetliner with a hydraulic problem affecting its nose-wheel steering turned back after takeoff and landed safely at the airport. Flight 1210, which had departed at 12:30 p.m. for Milwaukee, landed safely at 1:46 p.m. as firefighters stood by.
