Add Cross-Country: A call of nature helped prevent the Corona del Mar girls’ team, ranked seventh in the state, from qualifying for the Division III State meet. The team missed by seven points. Saturday, the team was held in the clerk-of-course area, waiting for one its runners to return from using Mt. SAC’s restroom facilities. By the time she returned, the race officials had started the race. Corona del Mar Coach Tom Cheese estimates the Sea Kings got to the starting line 20 to 30 seconds after the race had begun.

“She left about 15 minutes before the race to use the bathroom,” Cheese said. “At the time, there seemed to be enough time, but as it turned out, there wasn’t. They wouldn’t hold the race.”
