THOUSAND OAKS : $1.5-Million Fire Started by TV Set

A Thousand Oaks fire that did more than $1.5 million in damage to four townhouses Sunday was caused by a malfunctioning television set, authorities determined Monday.
The 19-inch television in a townhouse in the 600 block of Kendale Lane ignited in flames that spread to nearby drapes and into an attic crawl space, a Ventura County Fire Department official said.
The blaze did $200,000 in damage to the townhouse and $1.25-million damage to its contents, which included an antique collection, authorities said. The fire also did minor to moderate damage to three adjoining townhouses, but caused no injuries.
