Share

Bob Boone, a San Diego native and a former major league catcher, will be inducted into the Breitbard Hall of Fame in 1992.

Boone will become the 74th inductee and join his father, Ray, a former big-leaguer himself and a 1972 inductee.

Boone became a major league at the age of 23 in 1971 and went on to set three major league records: most games caught in a career (2,225), most chances handled (12,434) and most 100-or-more-game seasons (15).

His son, Bret, is an infielder in the Seattle Mariners organization. If Bret makes it to the Mariners, it will be the first time three generations of the same family have played in the major leagues.

Reggie Waller, the Padres’ new director of scouting, named four area scouts on Thursday.

Joe Henderson, who previously worked with San Francisco, Detroit and Seattle, will work Southern California as a cross-checker. Larry Harper, a former director of scouting for San Francisco, will cover Northern California. Craig Weissmann, a San Diego native who bounced around the minor leagues for 11 years, will be assigned to Los Angeles. And Dave Finley, who, like Weissmann, is a graduate of U.S. International University, will be a cross-checker in Southern California.
