SAN CLEMENTE : Officers to Spotlight Drunk-Driving Peril

Share

Police officers will cruise the city Monday with their patrol car headlights turned on to call attention to the problems caused by drunk drivers during the holiday season.

“The holiday season is a time of particular concern for law enforcement,” Police Chief Albert C. Ehlow said. “Crashes caused by impaired drivers are always a problem, and this special observance is one way we can help focus attention on the problem.”

The headlight observance will start the first week of National Drunk and Drugged Driving Awareness Week, today to Dec. 13, sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

San Clemente’s participation coincides with a similar statewide observance by the California Highway Patrol and other local law enforcement agencies.

“We just want the public to know that over the holidays, law enforcement will be cracking down on those who choose to take other people’s lives into their own hands,” Ehlow said.
