When all your players return and you pick up two more talented guys, coaching can be almost painless. Just ask Middleton, who heads into Calvary Chapel’s second season of varsity play with a powerhouse team that should battle for the Arrowhead League championship. The Eagles have six players who are 6 feet 3 or taller, including Younger, a highly touted transfer from Maranatha who averaged 19 points and 12 rebounds last year. He’ll team with O’Brien (19 points and 14 rebounds last season) or Guild to give the Eagles a formidable front line. “Younger and O’Brien give us some real good size for our level,” Middleton said. “We are going to basically run some type of motion with an emphasis on getting the ball inside to those two guys.” If that fails, the Eagles can always dish it out to Arrowood, who averaged 14.3 points and led the county in three-point field-goal percentage last year at 58.6% (34 of 58). Point guard Lubbock averaged 6.4 assists and directs the attack. All of which paints a promising picture for Calvary Chapel, which has moved up to Division IV. “If we were still in Division V, I think we’d be one of the top teams in the Southern Section,” Middleton said.
