Stevens Leads Point Loma Nazarene

Christy Stevens made eight of 11 field goals, including four of five from three-point range, to lift the Point Loma Nazarene women’s basketball to a 76-59 victory over UC Riverside on Monday.

Stevens finished with 23 points. Teammate Rochelle Lightner had 19 points, on nine of 12 shooting, and nine rebounds. Camille Armijo scored 16, and Stacee Eggers had 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

PLNC (6-3) shot 52% from the field, including seven of 13 from three-point range. UCR, an NCAA Division II team, fell to 0-6.

FOOTBALL

A number of Chargers will hand out 1,000 pairs of shoes as part of the teams’ third annual shoe distribution for needy youngsters this morning at three Payless ShoeSource stores. Those needy boys and girls, Kindergarten through sixth grade, were selected with the help of various school districts in the county.

Sites and times are as follows: 3534 National Avenue in San Diego from 9-11:30; 1214 Broadway in Chula Vista from 9:30-11; and 1255 E. Main St. in El Cajon from 9-noon.
