A carload of men opened fire with automatic weapons on another car Wednesday night, seriously wounding two passengers, police said.

Police followed a car believed to be that of the attackers to a restaurant, where late Wednesday night officers were ordering the customers to file out, one by one, as officers trained guns at the front door. One suspect was arrested, police said. No other arrests had been made late Wednesday.

The shooting occurred at 8:17 p.m. at 3708 W. 17th St. near Harbor Boulevard, Sgt. Richie Murg said.

The attack apparently stemmed from an earlier argument between the passengers of the two cars as they drove eastbound on Westminster Boulevard, which becomes 17th Street, police said. The attackers opened fire, hitting three of four passengers. Two were seriously hurt; one had minor injuries.
