COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Middleton’s 25 Lead Chapman

Rog Middleton scored 25 points and Jeff Gardner 20 to lead Chapman to a 73-51 nonconference basketball victory over San Francisco State Wednesday night in San Francisco.

Middleton made 11 of 14 shots from the field and also had 13 rebounds for the Panthers (4-4). Alan Schlines added 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Panthers (4-4), who won on the road for the first time in four games this season.

Cal State Fullerton Football Awards--Running back Reggie Yarbrough, who rushed for a team-high 905 yards during the Titans’ 2-9 season, was selected as the team’s most valuable offensive back. Other honors went to Chad Lindsay (most valuable defensive lineman), John Cotti (most valuable offensive lineman), Darrius Watson (most valuable defensive back), running back Arthur Davis (newcomer of the year), Trendell Williams (offensive scout team player of the year), and Jake Hogue (defensive scout player of the year). Offensive lineman Tim Drevno, running back Kevin Koontz, defensive back Michael Jones and linebacker Teddy McMillan were honored with Titan Pride awards for contributions on and off the field during a player’s entire career.

Pawlawski Named to East-West Shrine Game--Mike Pawlawski, the former Troy High standout who led California to its first New Year’s Day bowl since the 1959 Rose Bowl, will play in the 67th East-West Shrine Game Jan. 19.

Oden, Chalais Honored--Bev Oden, a former Irvine High volleyball standout now at Stanford, was a first-team All-West Region selection, and UC Irvine outside hitter Dana Chalais was selected to the Northwest Region second team by the American Volleyball Coaches Assn.
