Warriors’ Higgins Might Be Sidelined for Rest of the Season After Surgery

Rod Higgins was put on injured reserve Friday because of a broken wrist, and the Golden State Warriors said he might sit out the rest of the season.

Rookie Chris Gatling, the first of the Warriors’ three first-round draft picks, was activated from injured reserve, bringing the Warriors’ roster to 11, still one below the limit. Alton Lister, who has a strained groin, remains on the injured list.

Higgins, the Warriors’ fourth-leading scorer, was injured Thursday night when he collided with Matt Bullard during the second quarter of the Warriors’ 99-96 loss to Houston. Higgins will undergo surgery Wednesday.

Higgins had played in all of the Warriors’ first 19 games, averaging 11.5 points. He and Tim Hardaway were tied for the team lead with 29 three-point baskets.

Gatling had been on injured reserve for three weeks because of a strained left shoulder and a sprained left ankle. He played sparingly in three games, averaging 3.7 points.
