Two owners of a children’s clothing store near the Los Angeles garment district chased armed robbers who stole $200,000 in cash from them Monday afternoon, police said. The victims, however, dropped the pursuit after the bandits fired two shots at them, according to Newton Division Lt. Jim Rubert.

The man and his wife had opened the electric gate that protects their parking lot in the 1600 block of East 14th Street when the robbers approached their car and pointed guns at their heads, Rubert said. One snatched the woman’s purse and a paper bag containing the cash, then both ran to a car driven by a third person, police said.

“While his wife chased the robbers on foot, the husband pursued them for three blocks (in the car) until the bandits fired two shots at him,” Rubert said.
