Doctor Denies Guilt in Companion’s Death

A 28-year-old doctor from New Jersey is being held without bail in the Vista detention center on charges that he raped and murdered his 20-year-old travel companion in a Carlsbad motel after knocking her out with chloroform.
The suspect, Dr. Samson Dubria, pleaded not guilty Monday in Vista Municipal Court to the charges. A bail hearing was scheduled for Jan. 14.
The San Diego County district attorney’s office alleges that Dubria enticed 20-year-old Jennifer Klapper to travel with him to California for a vacation, then used chloroform to knock her out before raping her. The woman never regained consciousness, though, and Dubria called paramedics.
The preliminary hearing was scheduled for Feb. 13.
