Monterey Park Police Announce Promotions

Monterey Park Police Chief Dan Cross on Monday announced eight promotions and two new officers in his department, including the appointment of James F. Burks as captain.

Burks, 50, has been in the department since 1963. As captain of support services, Burks oversees the detective division, the city jail, records, communications and animal control. Capt. James B. Strait is in charge of patrol, traffic and community relations.

Also promoted: Lt. Charles R. Montoya, 38; Lt. William Yeung, 37; Sgt. Manuel Ocampo, 31, and agents Michael Daly, 34, Timothy Johnson, 39, Wesley Clair, 32, and Tina Gorajewski, 29. New officers are Henry Tao, 25, and John Martindale, 25.

* Catherine Haskett has been promoted by the Pasadena Arts Division from staff assistant to the new position of performing and visual arts coordinator. She has been on the staff of the city’s arts program since its inception in 1988.

In her new role, she will coordinate the activities of the Arts Division’s Arts Education Program and citywide activities involving the arts, including performances, festivals and workshops.
