A 17-year-old Newbury Park youth was being held Friday on suspicion of armed robbery, forgery, burglary, theft and possession of drugs, authorities said.

The youth, who was not identified because of his age, failed to return to California Youth Authority from a furlough a month ago, Ventura County Sheriff’s Detective Ernie Montagna said.

He was arrested Dec. 14 at the All Star Inn in Newbury Park on suspicion of escaping from the youth jail and was found with a small amount of narcotics, Montagna said.

The youth is suspected of taking more than $100 from a Baskin-Robbins ice cream store in Newbury Park after threatening a cashier with a handgun, Montagna said.

The youth also is suspected of forging one of his parents’ names on four checks, of burglarizing at least two houses in the Conejo Valley, and of taking two taxicab rides and refusing to pay the fare, Montagna said.
