THOUSAND OAKS : 3 Men Jailed After Gang-Related Fight

Share

Three men were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder early Saturday after a gang-related fight in which one victim was hit by a car and another was beaten and stabbed, authorities said.

Two carloads of rival gang members stopped at a gas station at Newbury and Ventu Park roads in Newbury Park about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Deputy Randy Pentis said. Tam Nguyen, 20, of Newbury Park got out of the second car and was approached by several people from the first car, Pentis said. After a short foot chase, Nguyen was beaten with a wooden board and possibly a baseball bat, kicked several times and stabbed once in the abdomen, Pentis said.

During the fight, James Balch, 18, of Newbury Park allegedly tried to run down David Shiftner, 20, of Thousand Oaks with his car while Shiftner was trying to cross the street, Pentis said. Nguyen and Balch are in one gang and Shiftner is in another, Pentis said.

Nguyen and Shiftner were taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center by friends. Nguyen was in serious condition, and Shiftner was treated for minor injuries to his legs and released, a nursing supervisor said.

Balch, Shiftner and Dixon are all being held at Ventura County Jail and are scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
