PREP ROUNDUP : Fegraus Leads Laguna Beach to Upset of Ocean View

Forward Eric Fegraus made two free throws with three seconds remaining and teammate Brad Berberian added a layup at the buzzer to lead Laguna Beach to a 65-62 upset of Ocean View in the first round of the 27th Orange Holiday Classic Monday night at the Hutton Sports Center.

Fegraus stole the ball from Ocean View point guard Jimmy Harris at midcourt and was fouled by Albert Fanoga while driving for a layup. Ocean View was leading, 62-61, when it called a timeout to give Fegraus some time to think about the free throws.

Fegraus had made only one of six free-throw attempts in his previous game, and Laguna Beach Coach Bret Fleming said the senior was one of the poorest free-throw shooters on the team. But Fegraus swished both shots to give the Artists the lead for good.

“After I made the first one, I sure felt better about the second,” Fegraus said. “I think our team is now starting to come together since Trigg Garner came back.”

Garner, a strong inside rebounder, missed the opening two weeks of the season after recovering from a blood clot in his right shoulder suffered during the football season.

Laguna Beach (5-3) made five three-point shots and led through most of the game. Ocean View (5-4) rallied from an 11-point deficit to take a 62-59 lead when Chris Beehler scored on a layup with 31 seconds left.
