PLACENTIA : Fire in Home Causes $180,000 in Damage

Fire caused an estimated $180,000 damage to a two-story home after an electrical circuit overheated, a County Fire Department spokeswoman said Thursday.

The blaze in the 1300 block of Rosario Circle occurred at 12:29 a.m. Wednesday, said Maria Sabol, a department spokeswoman. No injuries were reported.

The homeowner, Mary Hubbard, and her family were at Christmas midnight Mass when the fire started. Sabol said the family returned to find fire engines in front of their home and most of their furniture and other belongings destroyed or damaged by smoke and heat.

Sabol said the fire occurred when wiring short-circuited in a wall, causing a stereo system on the other side to catch fire.

The blaze caused $30,000 damage to the house structure and $150,000 damageto its contents. Sabol said the family had an extensive antique furniture collection.
