COLLEGE FOOTBALL / BOWL GAMES REPORT : CITRUS : Pawlawski Gives Bungee Jumping a Try

Share

Mike Pawlawski, the hard-throwing, hard-talking quarterback at California, has taken up a new hobby--bungee jumping. Pawlawski tried it for the first time in Orlando while preparing to play Clemson in Wednesday’s Citrus Bowl.

“I’m standing on top of this crane getting ready to jump, and the guy is counting me down,” Pawlawski said. “So he goes, ‘four, three, two, one’ and I jump and all of a sudden I hear him say, ‘Wait, wait, wait. . . . “

Merely a little bungee jumping humor.

Pawlawski said his jump was from 150 feet and he came within 20 feet of the bottom.

“I’m climbing up and asking myself why would I ever do this,” Pawlawski said. “It’s so . . . stupid. I said I’ll never do this again, then I went back and did it a second time and said the same thing on the way up.”

The practice doesn’t exactly have the ringing endorsement of Coach Bruce Snyder.

“I don’t know if he’s real happy,” Pawlawski said. “I asked if I could take his youngest daughter, and he said, ‘No.’ ”
