Bobby Ross officially became head coach of the San Diego Chargers Thursday and joined General Manager Bobby Beathard in trying to end the AFC’s longest playoff drought.

The Chargers haven’t been to the playoffs since 1982. Their only winning record since then was the strike season of 1987.

“I would not want to say there is a timetable” for winning, Ross said. “As much as anything you’d like to start doing it right away.”
