Cable Station to Televise 13 CSUN Events

Thirteen Cal State Northridge winter and spring athletic events will be televised nationwide on a tape-delay basis on the Hagen Sportsnet, beginning Jan. 18 when the Northridge men’s basketball team plays Southern Utah. Three other men’s basketball games will be broadcast as well as five men’s volleyball matches and four baseball games.

Hagen, a Midwest-based distributor, is available to more than 40 million viewers in 125 television markets, including Los Angeles, Palmdale, Fresno and Bakersfield.

KAGL, which broadcasts on UHF Channel 30, is available in Los Angeles. The Copley Colony Cablevision (Channel 71) also is available in the Southland.

Jeff Wilson of Newbury Park High, runner-up in the Kinney national cross-country championships last month, will compete in a stellar mile field in the Sunkist Invitational indoor track and field meet at the L. A. Sports Arena on Feb. 15.

Corey Ihmels of Williston, N. D., Brian Hesson of Elba, Ohio, and Angel Martinez of San Gabriel High, who placed first, third and fourth in the Kinney meet, also are expected to compete in the race, which is billed as the national high school indoor mile championship.

The third Bret Saberhagen golf tournament, proceeds of which help fund Cleveland High athletics, will be held Jan. 20 at Porter Valley Country Club in Northridge.

Saberhagen, a two-time Cy Young Award winning pitcher for the Kansas City Royals and a Cleveland graduate, now is a member of the New York Mets.

Signups will begin today at 9 a.m. for Westhills Baseball Assn.

The league is open to players between the ages of 6 and 17 who live in the West Valley area. Signups will be held at the West Hills Recreation Center complex, 6800 Valley Circle Blvd..
