Bill Lewis, who guided East Carolina to an 11-1 record and a No. 9 final ranking for 1991, became Georgia Tech’s football coach Monday night.

The appointment was announced by Georgia Tech President John Patrick Crecine and Athletic Director Homer Rice.

The length of Lewis’ contract wasn’t announced.

He succeeds Bobby Ross, who became coach of the San Diego Chargers on New Year’s Day after compiling a 31-26-1 record in five years at Georgia Tech.
