Firefighters discovered the charred remains of a 71-year-old man in his home, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said Monday.
The victim, Ralph Charles McKinney, was found in the dining room Sunday by volunteer firefighters from Julian after they had extinguished the fire at the rural home.
Neighbors had told firefighters that the owner of the Casner Road home was still inside, but rescue attempts were unsuccessful.
Damage to the one-story house was estimated at more than $100,000.
The fire is under investigation by the Sheriff Department’s arson and explosives detail.
