One of two men who robbed a Torrance department store at gunpoint Monday was taken into custody after officers pursued the suspected getaway car to the Harbor City area, police said.

One officer fired seven shots during the arrest, but no one was hit, said Torrance Police Lt. Mike Tamble.

The holdup occurred at a Stroud’s at 233rd Street and Hawthorne Boulevard about 6:30 a.m., Tamble said. “Two men wearing ski masks and armed with 9-millimeter handguns confronted a delivery truck driver and forced him inside the store,” Tamble said. “They herded the store manager and employees into an office and demanded that the manager open the safe.”

The men took about $2,500 to $3,000 from the safe and fled. Police were notified, and a short time later officers on patrol saw a Dodge Colt that was believed to be the getaway car, Tamble said.

After an officer fired several shots, Kenneth Crozier, 21, of Los Angeles, surrendered, Tamble said.
