Glendale : Industrial Zone Proposed

Share

The Redevelopment Agency on Tuesday accepted a preliminary plan and map for a proposed redevelopment zone to be formed in an industrial area along San Fernando Road.

The agency also authorized filing the proposal with the State Board of Equalization and the county so that the city eventually will be able to use some property tax money to improve buildings and streets in the planned 622-acre zone.

Officials said the zone is needed to upgrade the area and to encourage private investment and thus more jobs. Redevelopment money also could be used to build transit stations and a commuter rail system along the Southern Pacific railroad tracks, officials said. A series of public hearings will be scheduled prior to actual formation of the zone, which is expected in about a year, they said.
