Monterey Park : Youths to Sell Dog Licenses

Share

Police Explorers are going door-to-door to encourage dog owners to license their pets.

City officials estimate that only half the dogs in Monterey Park are licensed.

The City Code requires that dogs be licensed to ensure that they are vaccinated and to help identify and return lost dogs.

Starting Saturday, teams of two Explorers, who are high school-age volunteers, will hand out applications printed in Chinese, English and Spanish and sell licenses.

The cost of a license is $20 per year, or $10 if the dog is neutered or spayed. Owners must show proof of vaccination and neutering or spaying.

In addition, Protectors of Animals, a nonprofit club, will reimburse owners $15 if a dog has been spayed or neutered between Jan. 1 and March 1.

To receive the money, mail a copy of the neutering certificate to Protectors of Animals, Box 280, Monterey Park 91754.
