Gonzalez Faces Sosa at Forum
Humberto Gonzalez of Mexico City, in his second reign as the World Boxing Council light-flyweight champion, defends his title tonight at the Forum against top-ranked contender Domingo Sosa of the Dominican Republic.
Gonzalez (31-1 with 24 knockouts) won the championship in the 108-pound division for the first time in 1989 and defended it five times before losing the crown at the Forum to Rolando Pascua late in 1990. He regained the title last June 3 with a unanimous decision over Melchor Cob Castro, but suffered a broken bone in his left hand during the bout and hasn’t fought since.
Sosa (22-0 with 14 knockouts), is 5 feet 6, five inches taller than the champion. It will be his first bout in the United States.
