Freshman Cherokee Parks, from Marina High in Huntington Beach, led all Duke scorers with 19 points as the top-ranked Blue Devils rolled to a 112-73 victory over Clemson in an Atlantic Coast Conference game Monday night at Durham, N.C.

Christian Laettner, one of three Duke players with 11 points, became the seventh player in Duke history to score 2,000 points. Laettner reached the plateau on a three-pointer with 14:26 to play in a game in which his record was about the only suspense. Just ahead of him on the Duke list is former guard Jim Spanarkel.

Thomas Hill added 16 points for Duke (15-0, 7-0), Bobby Hurley had 14 and Antonio Lang 12.

No. 6 Connecticut 72, Villanova 58--The Huskies (16-1, 7-1) shot only 38.5%, but they overcame that with 11 blocked shots, seven by freshman Donyell Marshall, and strong rebounding in a Big East game at Storrs, Conn.

Chris Smith, Connecticut’s leading scorer, had his worst shooting game of the season, missing all of his eight field-goal attempts. Marshall led the Huskies with 15 points.

Butler 87, No. 17 North Carolina Charlotte 84--Tim Bowen, a 5-8 point guard, hit a running 22-foot three-point shot at the buzzer to give the Bulldogs a victory at Indianapolis.

With 16 seconds to play and Butler (14-5) leading, 84-81, Bowen went to the foul line with a chance to wrap up the victory. But he missed both free throws and Delano Johnson hit a three-pointer for the 49ers (13-3) with six seconds left.

Darin Archbold led Butler with 32 points.

UNCC’s Henry Williams, an Indianapolis native, was honored by receiving a key to the city from Indianapolis Mayor Stephen Goldsmith and a proclamation from Gov. Evan Bayh, honoring his work in drug education.

Williams led the 49ers with 28 points, including a school-record eight three-pointers in 14 attempts.

No. 18 Oklahoma 79, Nebraska 76--Brent Price hit a three-pointer with 29 seconds remaining as the Sooners came from seven points down in the final 1:25 to beat the Cornhuskers in a Big Eight game at Lincoln, Neb.

The Sooners (13-3, 2-2) trailed 75-68 when they started their comeback. Oklahoma took a 77-76 lead on Price’s three-pointer, which came after Nebraska guard Michael Hughest turned the ball over trying to drive to the basket.

Price had 17 points to lead the Sooners. Carl Hayes scored 17 to lead Nebraska (13-4, 1-3).

No. 23 Florida State 68, Florida 67--Junior guard Sam Cassell’s twisting, underhand reverse layup with three seconds to play gave the Seminoles (13-4) a victory over the Gators at Gainesville, Fla.

The win extended the Seminoles’ winning streak to six games heading into Thursday’s ACC showdown with Duke.

OTHER GAMES

Wisconsin Green Bay (16-1, 7-0) defeated Western Illinois, 65-53, in a Mid-Continent game at Macomb, Ill., despite losing leading scorer Tony Bennett for most of the game. Bennett fell hard on his back making a layup five minutes into the game and played only briefly after that. He had only two points. His injury was diagnosed as a deep back bruise.
