Huntington Beach’s baseball program got a big assist when Dodger outfielder Darryl Strawberry agreed to headline a baseball card show Saturday in the Oilers’ gymnasium.
Strawberry will sign autographs for $8 each, with all proceeds going to Huntington Beach’s baseball team.
“We have a parent who knows his brother, and he wrote Darryl asking if he would help,” said Mike Dodd, Huntington Beach coach. “Darryl agreed to do the show for $5,000, which he donated to the Police League of Los Angeles.
“We’ve already sold 100 tables to cover his appearance costs, so everything we make at the show will be a profit for our team.”
