He Finds Madden’s Work Maddening
In his Jan. 27 article, “Madden Is the MVP Again,” Larry Stewart continues to insult the intelligence of his reluctant readers by applauding John Madden’s performance at the Super Bowl. It boggles the mind that anyone over the age of 10 could endure, let alone admire, Madden’s hyper-repetitive “look-see-wham-pow” style.
But Stewart evidently regards it as a model of descriptive clarity. And he appears to be not only oblivious but positively enamored of a hysterical semi-shout that rivals Dick Vitale’s in its capacity to exasperate.
Surely I’m joined by countless fellow sufferers, fingers groping between plays for the mute button, in preferring almost any color man (Bill Walsh, Dan Dierdorf, Pat Haden, Dan Fouts, Ahmad Rashad, or Terry Bradshaw) to the inanely juvenile and maddening Madden.
