Freedom Is Brief for Otay Mesa Escapee
A 29-year-old prisoner escaped from an Otay Mesa minimum-security jail for 15 minutes Tuesday morning by clinging to the back of a truck, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Isidro Andreas Delreal, jailed at the East Mesa jail on burglary charges, escaped about 7:45 a.m. by holding onto the back of a laundry truck that was leaving the facility, Sheriff’s Sgt. Glenn Revell said.
A deputy spotted Delreal clinging to the truck as it left the jail and raised an alarm by radio, Revell said.
At that point, Delreal jumped from the truck to an embankment and ran for about 15 minutes before he was captured in a remote area almost a mile away, Revell said.
He will be charged with escape, Revell said.
