The search continued Friday night for a 12-year-old Logan Heights boy presumed drowned after being swept away by a rain-swollen flood-control channel, officials said.

San Diego lifeguards, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Fire Department, the Police Department and other agencies continued searching by land, sea and air for Humberto Albarran, who fell into the rain-choked waters of Chollas Creek near 32nd Street on Thursday night, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

Authorities were pessimistic about finding the boy alive, however, because of the length of time he has been lost, Robinson said.

Humberto and his brother Fernando, 13, were playing with a canoe in the drainage channel during a rainstorm about 5:30 p.m. when they fell into the swiftly moving current, Robinson said.

The older boy managed to climb to shore, but Humberto was swept away by the current, which led to San Diego Bay, Robinson said.
