ORANGE COUNTY WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL : UNLV’s Second-Half Surge Beats Titans

Nevada Las Vegas broke open a close game at halftime and beat Cal State Fullerton, 69-57, in a Big West Conference women’s game Saturday night in Titan Gym.

Sharon Hargrove scored 20 points and had four steals, and Merlelynn Lange added 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Rebels (10-6, 8-2), who led, 35-31, at halftime.

Claudette Jackson had 23 points and 12 rebounds for the Titans (10-10, 4-7). Kisa Hughes added 11 points and 13 rebounds but was limited to 27 minutes because of foul trouble.

In another Big West Conference game:

New Mexico State 82, UC Irvine 66--A 15-3 spurt by the Aggies midway through the second half sent Irvine to its 12th consecutive loss. Karie Yoshioka had 15 points and six assists for Irvine (4-17, 0-12).

In the California Collegiate Athletic Assn.:

Chapman 105, Cal State Los Angeles 69--Marvette Williams had 28 points and 13 rebounds for visiting Chapman (10-11, 4-4).

In the Golden State Athletic Conference:

Christ College Irvine 80, Southern California College 50--Gitte Mejer had 20 points and nine rebounds for the Eagles (21-3, 6-1).
