Car Hit Broadside; Glendale Woman Dies

A Glendale woman was killed Sunday when the car in which she was a passenger was struck broadside by another vehicle in North Hollywood, police said.

The car carrying Neelam Batra, 23, was struck shortly after 11 a.m. while turning left onto Lankershim Boulevard from Victory Boulevard, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Jay Taylor said.

Batra was dead when police arrived, Taylor said. The driver of her car, a 28-year-old Panorama City man whose name was withheld, suffered a fractured collarbone and ribs and was taken to AMI Medical Center of North Hollywood.

The driver of the second car, a 25-year-old Hollywood man who witnesses said was driving up to 50 m.p.h., suffered cuts to his scalp and was also treated at AMI Medical Center, Taylor said.

No citations were issued pending an investigation, he said.
