COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Riverside Beats Saddleback in Double Overtime

Saddleback fell from second to fourth place in the Orange Empire Conference because of its 99-96 double overtime loss to Riverside Thursday night at Saddleback.

Sophomore forward Fred Haygood made a basket and two free throws in the second overtime as Riverside (19-11, 5-4) moved into third place, a half-game ahead of Saddleback (14-12, 5-5) and a half-game behind Cypress. Haygood (34 points) also forced the second overtime with two free throws with 15 seconds left in the first.

Lou Williams led Riverside with 35 points. Ray Ankton had 26 for Saddleback and Jody Smith added 22.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s basketball:

Saddleback 85, Riverside 74--Erin Schimeneck had 21 points and 16 rebounds as the Gauchos overcame a 42-41 halftime deficit to stay atop the conference.

Stefanie Moorman added 19 and Danielle Silva 16 for Saddleback (24-4, 7-1).
