SPORTS ON WEEKEND TV : Magical Ceremony at Forum

NBC will cover the Lakers and Magic Johnson’s number retirement Sunday, while CBS airs the Daytona 500 and Winter Olympics on a sports weekend that will include college basketball and boxing.

Pro Basketball: More lumps in throats, moist eyes and spinning VCRs are guaranteed when Magic Johnson’s No. 32 is retired at halftime of Sunday’s Boston Celtics-Lakers game at the Forum (12:30 p.m., Channels 4, 36 and 39). NBC will also air the Detroit Pistons-Philadelphia 76ers game at 10 a.m. Sunday. KCOP Channel 13 will air a Clippers-Portland Trail Blazers matchup Sunday at 7 p.m.

College Basketball: No. 3 UCLA visits Oregon at 3 p.m. today on Channels 2 and 63. Today’s other telecasts involving teams ranked by the Associated Press will match No. 10 Syracuse and Notre Dame (1 p.m., Channel 4, 36 and 39) and No. 15 Nevada Las Vegas and Pacific (11 p.m., Channel 56). On Sunday, No. 1 Duke will play North Carolina State at 10:30 a.m. on Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42.

Winter Olympics: CBS’ (Channels 2 and 8) 10 a.m.-3 p.m. telecast today will include coverage of Herschel Walker’s quest for a bobsledding gold medal, the U.S.-Poland hockey game, cross-country and freestyle skiing. In prime time tonight (7 p.m.-11 p.m.), the conclusion of men’s figure skating, the men’s 500-meter speedskating and women’s downhill skiing.

On Sunday afternoon (12:30-6 p.m.), Canada will meet the Unified Team in hockey, the men’s 1,500-meter speedskating will be contested along with men’s biathlon 30-kilometer relay and the freestyle skiing finals. From 8-11 p.m., ice dancing, two-man bobsledding, ski jumping and men’s skiing will be presented.

Auto Racing: The Daytona 500, stock car racing’s premier event, will air at 9 a.m. Sunday on Channels 2 and 8.

Boxing: Donovan (Razor) Ruddock will take on former WBA heavyweight champ Greg Page tonight at 7 p.m. on Showtime.
