Bettor at Los Alamitos Hits Pick Nine for $307,423.40

A bettor at the Los Alamitos satellite wagering site Friday gave himself or herself a happy Valentine present--a perfect Pick Nine ticket worth $307,423.40 on a $48 investment.

The Pick Nine was hit on a formful day, when six of the nine favorites made the winner’s circle at Santa Anita. The winning ticket came two days after a mandatory payout of the Pick Nine pool, when a single perfect ticket would have been worth more than $1.4 million, but no ticket had more than seven winners. A carryover of $250,000 was reserved to start the Pick Nine pool on Thursday.

The winning ticket had single selections on favorites in five of the nine races, including the last four, and went as far as three deep only once, in the fifth race, when Calm Seas paid $17.80, the longest price of the day. She was one of only two winners on the program who paid more than $10 for a $2 wager.

The unidentified winning fan had some tense moments late in the final race. The ticket was alive only to the favorite, Sparbaby, who had to stave off a late rally by 25-1 shot Success Bound to win by a head.
