TRUST US: Scouting left field for the next Fishbone or Living Colour, or just looking for a fun, musical, anti-Hollyweird night out? Check out the Black Rock Cafe, a weekly showcase sponsored by the Black Rock Coalition’s L.A. chapter, Wednesday nights at Raji’s, 6160 Hollywood Blvd.

The BRC was founded in New York City by Living Colour’s Vernon Reid and Village Voice writer Greg Tate to promote black rockers and the African-American role in rock history. But no confrontational vibes sully the party at the Black Rock Cafe, where a racially mixed group of musicians and friends play and party.

Highlights of the recent event marking the Cafe’s relocation to Raji’s from Al’s Bar were the premiere of Terry Gross’ entertaining video documentary on the Black Rock Cafe, followed by thunderous live performances by Bozaque, Blue Baron & the Stretch Club and ranking headbangers Blakasaurus Mex.

Three bands perform each Wednesday. Among the regulars: PMS, four hard-slamming women; Ach/Nein, a frenetic duo of bassist and drummer-singer, and the Unstoppables, whose l-o-u-d performances invariably provoke a hasty rush to the bar for napkin earplugs. For information on upcoming shows, call the BRC hot line: (213) 960-7730.
