California IN BRIEF : LIVERMORE : 3.8 Earthquake Causes No Damage

A mild earthquake centered near Livermore awoke people Saturday morning, but police said there were no reports of damage. The quake, which struck at 6:36 a.m., measured magnitude 3.8. It was centered about eight miles east of the city, said Rick Lester, a spokesman for the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park. Livermore is about 30 miles east of San Francisco. About a dozen people awakened by the quake called the Livermore Police Department to inquire about the shaking, said spokeswoman Carolyn Hendrickson. She said there were no reports of damage.
